SPACE Treatment
Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions
What is SPACE?
SPACE is an evidence-based treatment approach designed for parents of children and adolescents who struggle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and/or Anxiety.
SPACE Treatment Overview
SPACE Treatment is an evidence-based intervention developed by the Yale Child Study Center to assist children and adolescents dealing with anxiety disorders. This approach involves working closely with parents to address childhood anxiety effectively. Through coaching sessions, parents are equipped with strategies to provide supportive responses to their child's anxiety and to gradually decrease accommodations, which are behaviors that aim to alleviate children's distress.
Key Focus Areas in SPACE Treatment Sessions:
Understanding and implementing supportive responses to a child's anxiety
Reducing family accommodations that may inadvertently reinforce anxiety
Enhancing skills to manage situations when a child experiences dysregulation
